A systems engineer with more than three decades of experience in the aerospace industry specializing in systems integration and test of space qualified hardware. Mr. Mason’s career and education spans time spent in the United States Army, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and with Project Performance International.
After serving ten years in the United States Army Communications Command with assignments beginning in Okinawa, Mr. Mason was promoted to Staff Sergeant as Commander of remote sites in Taiwan and Italy.
Mr. Mason’s career with the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company began as an electrical technician and concluded as the Lead Engineer for design teams developing and testing assorted electro-optical space qualified instruments. His career included time spent at the renowned Advanced Technology Center where he focused his expertise on rapid development of assorted space-qualified hardware. His responsibilities spanned the product life cycle to include requirements analysis, design analysis, to leading engineering teams of assorted disciplines in the design, development, and verification testing of space qualified electro-optical instruments. He authored systems integration and verification plans and reports, designed thermal vacuum systems, and directed systems integration operations in class 100 cleanrooms.
Mr. Mason completed his career at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company managing the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) team for a line of business. In this position he earned his certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, facilitated more than twenty-five continuous improvement events, mentored more than a dozen practitioners to their green and black belt certifications, and co-facilitated training classes for LSS students.
Mr. Mason’s academic accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a focus on Production and Operations Management and a Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA) majoring in Quantitative Business Methods.
David Mason’s education, training, and experience provides and excellent foundation in applying Systems Engineering and Lean Thinking in analyzing processes with the ultimate goal to deliver value to the customer by improving product and process efficiency.
Mr. Mason is an Expert System Engineer Professional (ESEP) and a Management Association Certified Manager. He also achieved qualification as a Certified Product Engineer, a Cost Account Manager, and a range of other employer-specific certifications.
A member of INCOSE since 1998, Mr. Mason is a Past-President of the INCOSE SFBA Chapter for 2009, when the Chapter earned the ‘INCOSE President’s Award’ for Most Improved Chapter. Since February 2008, he has served as the INCOSE Assistant Director for the Student Division.
Mr. Mason now focuses his efforts and considerable expertise on advancing the systems engineering skills of others. He remains a committed advocate of the benefits of systems engineering, with a passion for the discipline that is obvious at his speaking engagements and in delivering training. David Mason joined the Project Performance International/Certification Training International team in March 2012, as a Course Presenter.
