DAN FOSTER
B.Sc. EE, CSEP
Course Facilitator
Dan Foster is a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) with over two decades of systems engineering experience spanning the full system development life cycle. With a passion for both the practice and teaching of systems engineering, Dan brings a deep understanding of engineering process, lifecycle thinking, and cross-domain application to his role as a presenter for CTI.
Dan has worked across various stages of the development “V”, from concept and architecture through to integration, verification, and support. His career has included engineering roles in both electro-mechanical and software-intensive systems, largely within the U.S. defense sector. Throughout his 14 years at Booz Allen Hamilton, Dan served as a Lead Systems Engineer and also as a Systems Engineering Training Instructor, delivering internal CSEP preparation and Fundamentals of Systems Engineering courses multiple times annually. His teaching has helped engineers build confidence and capability in INCOSE-aligned practices. In his own words, “I love to help others ‘get it.’ I also love the beauty of systems engineering.”
In his most recent industry role, Dan led systems engineering for AppCEMA, a software and cyber-electronic warfare program. He authored and maintained the Interface Design Document, worked closely with developers to align software architecture with requirements, managed subcontracts, and liaised with external stakeholders. His prior work includes systems modeling with SysML in MagicDraw, architecture definition, and requirements development for deployable cyber solutions.
Dan also contributed as a systems engineer to radar systems development and lifecycle management for the U.S. Army, supporting readiness reviews, configuration audits, and verification efforts using DOORS. Earlier in his career at Lockheed Martin, he led the development of Launch Sequencer Automated Test Equipment and managed the successful technology transfer of relay modules to Japanese manufacturing teams, earning a reputation for his thoroughness, communication, and mentoring ability.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cedarville University and has been a certified INCOSE CSEP since 2013. He is based in Maryland, USA, and is available for virtual or in-person course delivery across time zones.
Beyond his professional work, Dan has spent nearly a decade as a volunteer cross-country coach with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, mentoring young athletes and managing team operations. His ability to guide individuals toward meaningful growth, whether on the track or in a technical classroom, is at the heart of his teaching style. Dan is married, with six children and one grandchild, and enjoys bird photography among his hobbies.
Dan joins CTI with the goal of helping engineers worldwide advance their understanding of systems engineering and achieve certification success through practical, engaging instruction grounded in real-world application.
